Homework at Trinity Academy Cathedral

Homework is a crucial part of your child’s education and all students can expect to receive regular homework. The amount will depend upon the phase students are in.

Students at Trinity Academy Cathedral are encouraged to have a good balance between home and academy life, and plan out their homework completion so that they can make the most of the extracurricular activities available.

We have therefore carefully considered our approach to homework and use well designed tasks that are explicitly linked to classroom learning. The purpose of homework is made clear to our learners and aids in increasing knowledge and fluency in areas of the curriculum. Our homework aims to do this by explicitly teaching independent learning strategies which will build good study habits over time. Homework has an impact on pupil engagement, progress and attainment, helping support our learners to prepare for lessons or future exams.

What does homework at the Academy look like?

At KS3, learners are given a study journal which contains a range of study skills and activities to help them revise the knowledge they need for each of their subjects. Each study journal contains homework for a 2-week period. Pupils are expected to complete a short number of activities each day which is clearly detailed in their study journal.

Each activity has an instructional video clip which guides the learner through each task, the can be located in the front of their study journal as a QR code. Learners are introduced to one task at a time so they will have mastered one activity before moving on to the next.

At KS4, learners are given a study journal in which they are expected to plan out and record their homework. KS4 learners are set homework by their class teachers for each curriculum area.
