Completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award gives young people an internationally recognised certificate which is highly valued by employers and educational establishments. A Duke of Edinburgh programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. You just need to be aged between 14 and 24 to complete the award.
Levels
You can do programmes at two levels which, when completed, lead to a Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Trinity Academy Cathedral is currently running the Bronze level award for Year 9 and Year 10 students and will start a Silver qualification in the next academic year.
Sections
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections – Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition.
You will find yourself helping people or the community, gaining personal physical fitness, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).
The best bit is – you are allowed to choose what you do!
Your programme can be full of activities and projects which give you experience in activities that you may never have considered trying before, and along the way you will pick up friends, talents and memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
If you need any further information, talk to the academy’s DofE leader (Miss Toney). If you would like to find out more information please visit the DofE website.
